Dear Kerr County Friends and Neighbors,
My name is Denise Vela, and it is an honor to serve our community. As a Kerrville native and Tivy High School graduate, this county is, and always has been home. I am committed to giving back with the same respect, care, and dedication that shaped me growing up.
For the past four years, I have served in the Kerr County Clerk’s Office, where I currently serve as Chief Deputy County Clerk. In this role, I help oversee daily operations and support all departments within the Clerk’s Office. I’ve gained hands-on experience in every area we serve, including Vital Statistics, Probate and Guardianship, County Court at Law, Juvenile and Mental Health, Land and Official Public Records, Elections, and Commissioners’ Court.
My background includes six years with the Kerrville Police Department as an Administrative Records Clerk and more than 25 years in Information Technology with Dell Computer. This experience has strengthened my skills in records management, legal documentation, data security, and improving efficiency through modern technology. I am committed to advancing paperless systems that reduce costs and deliver better service to the people of Kerr County.
I continue my professional development through annual training with the Texas Secretary of State, Texas College of Probate Judges, and the County/District Clerk State Conferences. I am working on pursuing my Paralegal Certification through the University of Texas at San Antonio.
I am committed to serving this community not for recognition or power, but because I genuinely care about the people who call it home. Service, to me, means listening, showing up, and doing the work with integrity, compassion, and respect. Leading with a servant’s heart means putting others first, being accountable, and ensuring every person is treated with dignity and care. My goal is to serve faithfully and work hard on behalf of our community.
